“When I first signed up for L.E.C I was a little worried about how me and my partner would go about teaching each other a language since neither of us had any experience in this. L.E.C provided us with tools and resources that made the process a lot easier and took a lot of the pressure of having to find material off our shoulders. I was paired up with an international student from the Netherlands, which was great because I am trying to learn Dutch for when I go to Amsterdam on exchange. She helped me learn Dutch and I helped her learn French. As suggested by L.E.C, we met 2 times a week and kept constant communication, texting and speaking to each other in the languages we were learning. “I am very happy to have signed up to L.E.C! I am a first year international student from Haarlem, Netherlands who has been having a lot of difficulty practicing my French. Every time I try speaking it in public or in stores, people either don’t understand me or they immediately switch to English to make the communication easier. I was paired with a girl who is from Montreal and wanted to learn Dutch for her exchange semester in Amsterdam. Because of L.E.C’s pairing system, we both had about equal levels of proficiency in each other's language, which really leveled the playing field. We both also shared a lot of interest which helped us have conversations about things we both liked and were very passionate about. We became very good friends and she even introduced me to her friends, which was really nice since I don’t know very many people in Montreal. She also showed me around Montreal and helped me learn the transportation system, something I was having trouble with. We have both progressed a lot in learning each other's language because we communicate with each other in the language we are learning, which really helps us practice as much as we can. "
